The National Executive Council meeting of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) is scheduled to hold at 7pm today in the wake of their meeting with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

This was after the briefing between the NSA and leaders of the organised labour in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. .

The National Vice President of the TUC, Tommy Etim, made this known in an interview with journalists.

Etim stated that the union representatives were content with the NSA’s actions up until this point.

“We commend the steps taken so far by the NSA. He made us understand that he didn’t see the issue on the ground as a political fight. He also noted that two people have been arrested in connection with the brutalisation of Ajaero. Initially, the government felt the strike would not hold. They were shocked to see that we went ahead with our threats.

“We are going to have an extraordinary joint NEC this evening by 7pm and I can tell you there is hope,” he said.

Ribadu met with the leadership of the organised labour in his office in Abuja earlier in the day.

TheNewDiplomat had earlier reported that the culprits of the President of the NLC President, Joe Ajaero’s maltreatment had been apprehended, according to the NSA.

The organised labour on Tuesday embarked on a strike following the supposed maltreatment of the labour leader and the neglect of the authorities to adequately execute certain arrangements made on October 2, 2023.
