In what seems to be a fast recurring trend across Nigeria, residents in Ibadan, Oyo State started a Protest, Monday, against the high cost of food and economic downturn in the current Tinubu-led administration
The Protesters, currently in a demonstration in Mokola area of Ibadan, are seeking an end to the hike in food prices and overall inflation experienced nationwide. The various Placards at the scene read ‘End food hike and inflation’, ‘The poor are starving’, ‘No More Emilokan’ amongst others.
Additionally, the group of protesters are calling out to Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu not to forget the various campaign promises which heralded his entry into the presidency last May.
Present at the Protest ground are Police officials to enforce order and disallow any form of violent demonstration. Recall that the Nigerian Police had warned against the breach of peace during any protest in the state.
The protest follows a string of others in Kano, Minna, Sokoto, Kogi and others, following the skyrocketing prices of goods and a general economic depression in Nigeria which worsened after President Tinubu’s fuel subsidy removal announcement
This also signals more troubles for the Presidency as it responds to criticisms by Opposition party, PDP and threats of an imminent strike by labour groups NLC and TUC
