Amid the recent surge in building collapse in Lagos, the state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako has tendered his resignation letter.

The resignation letter has been accepted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.

According to the statement, Salako’s resignation was a prelude to the restructuring of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, saying that the governor thanked the Commissioner for his services to the state and wished him success in his future endeavours.

“This is a prelude to the restructuring of the Ministry and its agencies.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu thanks the Commissioner for his services to the state and wishes him success in his future endeavours.

“The Governor warns all players in the sector to respect the law or face the consequences of any indiscretion, no matter who the perpetrators are,” the statement read in part.

The New Diplomat reports that Salako’s resignation is coming amid the incessant cases of building collapse in Lagos.

Lagos State has become notorious for building collapse in recent times, recording several incidents across Yaba, Ebute-Metta, Okota and Ikoyi areas of the state.

The recent of the lot came on Sunday morning when a seven-storey building under construction along Oba Idowu Oniru Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State collapsed early Sunday morning.

Recall that a 21-storey building on Gerard Road, Ikoyi collapsed on November 1, 2021. About 50 persons were confirmed dead in the collapse.
