Three Quick Thoughts on Wike and Yerima

By Farooq Kperogi I have read competing perspectives on the correctitude (or lack thereof) of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Lt. A.M. Several social media commentators, irrespective of partisan affiliations, appear united in proclaiming that Wike finally “met his…

Muhammadu Sanusi II has been deposed as the emir of Kano. This follows the decision of the governor of Kano to not only draw the sword but also symbolically throw away the sword.

The sacking of the prestigious and most revered Emir of Kano  was announced at a special sitting of the Kano State executive council (EXCO) presided over  by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano state. This may have momentarily brought to an epic climax the raging feud between the State governor and the emir.

The committee on public petition was mandated to investigate a petition submitted before the House by an association and an individual over the attitude and character of the emir which they claimed do not conform with the norms, culture and religion of Kano.

The committee, which was headed by the Deputy Speaker, Hamisu Chidare and severn others was given one week to investigate, prepare its report, and submit same with recommendations for  appropriate actions after extensive deliberations by the House.

This was premised on alleged petitions by some groups. The groups  which allegedly filed the  petition are Kano State for Promotion of Education and Culture and Mohammed Mukthar Ja’en Yamma, Gwale local government. With respect to the petition, both  groups appealed to the lawmakers to investigate the allegations of purported misconduct and take an appropriate stand on it. However, the atmosphere in the ancient city had remained calm in the midst of anxiety as the new development continue to generate discussion since last week.
