One week after another tribunal removed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Kaduna has sacked Governor Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The petition was filed by the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, and its candidate, Isah Mohammed Ashiru.
The tribunal, in its Thursday sitting, declared the 2023 governorship election in the state inconclusive.
The verdict was announced via Zoom after the judges refused to deliberate at the hall.
In a split decision with a 2:1 ratio, the tribunal instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a supplementary election within 90 days in 7 wards across 4 Local Government Areas.

The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Kaduna State, on Thursday, dismissed the second preliminary objection filed by the State Governor, Uba Sani, and the All Progressives Congress, to dismiss the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its governorship candidate, Isah Ashiru.
Sani and the APC – second respondents, had prayed to the court to dismiss the petition of Ashiru and the PDP, in an argument that the petitioners abandoned their petition.
Earlier, the tribunal headed by Justice Victor Oviawe, affirmed that the petition filed by Ashiru and the PDP was registered on April 10, 2023,
This came after the second respondent had asked the court to dismiss the timeliness of the petition by the petitioner which it claimed to have elapsed the 21-day period granted by law.
