Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were sworn in Wednesday as the President and Vice President of the United States at a historic lowkey celebration following the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and domestic tensions.

Biden, the 46th president in the U.S history, was sworn in just before noon, (U.S time) by Supreme Court Justice John Roberts.

He was sworn in with a family bible dating back to more than a century, shortly after Harris was sworn in by Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

The historic moment occurred shortly after Biden and wife Jill ascended the Capitol steps.

Harris and husband Doug Emhoff had earlier entered the seat of American democracy before the Bidens. Harris on Wednesday, made history, becoming the first female Vice President of the U.S, shattering the glass ceiling on behalf of female folks and the America’s black community.

The inauguration comes two weeks after the Capitol Hill was besieged in a bloody riot that left five people dead.

At the ceremony were former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama, who Biden served as vice president for two terms, as well as former first ladies Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush and Michelle Obama.
