Joseph R. Biden Jr. has been elected as 46th president of the United States with 284 electoral votes, defeating President Donald Trump in a bitterly contested poll.

Biden, 78, will become the oldest man ever sworn into the office after winning the much contested Pennsylvania.

On Saturday, four days after Election Day, he secured the requisite 270 votes from the Electoral College.

The election, far closer than many experts had predicted, was history-making.

Biden’s running mate, Senator Kamala Harris of California, is the first woman, and the first woman of color, on a winning presidential ticket.

Meanwhile, Biden has spoken, saying he would president for all Americans regardless of political persuasion.

Biden reiterates that under his presidency, there would be neither blue states nor red states, stressing that there would be one united states of America.
