The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially declared Iyorchia Ayu as its new National Chairman following the conclusion of its national convention in Abuja early Sunday.

Ayu, a former President of the Nigerian Senate had earlier emerged as the consensus candidate for the position ahead of the convention.

The official declaration was made by Ahmadu Fintiri, Adamawa State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Convention Organising Committee while announcing members of the newly elected National Working Committee.

The New Diplomat had earlier reported that majority of new PDP NWC members emerged through a consensus. Of the 21 NWC positions, only the offices of deputy national chairman (South), national auditor and national youth leader were contested.
