The Federal Government has apprehended Nnamdi Kanu, acclaimed leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) who has been on the run after jumping bail.
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Mr Abubakar Malami announced this on Tuesday in Abuja.
Malami said the arrest follows a collaborative effort between the Nigerian government and Interpol.
Arrested on Sunday, Kanu is now being tried at the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges bordering on treasonable felony, terrorism and illegal possession of firearms among others after jumping bail in 2017.
Kanu has been on self exile after the Federal Government declared him wanted on charges of treasonable felony. Also, the Federal Government proscribed the activities of IPOB after the Southeast Governors outlawed the separatist group.
The secessionist agitator has been away from the country since the Nigeria army invaded his residence in Afara-Ukwu near Umuahia, Abia State, during military’s ‘Operation Python Dance II’ staged to quell secessionist agitation of the IPOB.
