The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the extension of voting exercise in the Anambra governorship election till Sunday.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for INEC in Anambra, Dr. Nwachukwu Orji who made this announcement also said that the voting exercise of Saturday will also be extended by one hour.

The voting exercise will now end by 4pm from the initial scheduled time of 3pm. The exercise will also continue on Sunday in polling units where the voting exercise is yet to be concluded as of closing time on Saturday.

The announcement is coming amid reports of failure of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) across many wards in the state.

The New Diplomat had reported that there was a system failure of BVAS in polling Unit/Ward, PU 002, Ward 13, Isuofia, Aguata LGA, which delayed Prof. Charles Soludo, Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) from casting his vote in due time.

Also, voters in Enugwu-Agidi Ward 1; polling unit 001 and polling unit 002 in Njikoka L.G.A have also lamented the failure of card reader machines.

Meanwhile, Orji has now announced the decision of the electoral commission to extend the voting exercise in order to accommodate people affected by the system hitches experienced in many parts of the state.
