The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Saturday announced it has scheduled the next presidential election for February 25, 2023.

The INEC boss, Mahmood Yakubu, made this disclosure this on Saturday during a press briefing which held in Abuja.

The announcement came barely 24 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari signed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill into law.

Speaking on the scheduled date, Yakubu explained that the 2023 Presidential election will be shifted from February 18 to February 25, 2023, following the delay by Buhari to assent to the Electoral Act.

He added that the new date is to allow for conformity in line with the provisions of the Electoral laws which stipulate that elections notice be published at least 260 days to the elections.

The INEC boss also announced that the governorship and state houses of assembly elections will hold on March 11, 2023.
