Another tragedy has struck the family of former Nigerian international, Mr. Tijjani Babangida following the death of his one-year old son due to injuries sustained in a fatal road accident on Thursday that also claimed the life of Babangida’s younger brother, Mr. Ibrahim Babangida.

The New Diplomat had on Thursday, April 10, 2024, reported how the Nigerian gold medalist at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, was involved in a road accident while traveling with his wife, brother, son, and a maid on the Zaria-Kaduna road in Kaduna State.

While his brother, Ibrahim lost his life at the scene, the ex-international, who is the president of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN), and the other occupants in the vehicle were rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Unfortunately, according to a source, Babangida’s infant son succumbed to the severe injuries sustained in the accident while receiving medical care. Furthermore, the source disclosed that the wife of the former Super Eagles and Ajax winger has tragically lost one of her eyes due to the severe facial injuries sustained in the accident.

“This is a difficult moment for our friend Tijanni and his entire family. After the death of Ibrahim, his little son, who was battling for life in the hospital with him, also passed away yesterday (Friday).

“Right now, he is traumatised by the death of his younger brother and his son, who was always with him. His wife has lost one of her eyes because a part of her face was damaged.

“The maid also suffered a fracture in her leg, the same as a young man who was hit by the ill-fated car.

“Well, Tijanni has since been transferred to a hospital in Abuja where he is to undergo surgery on his damaged knee and other injuries.

“All we can do is to pray for God to strengthen him to overcome the tragic situation,” Daily Trust quoting the source.
