There is palpable tension in Owerri, Imo state capital currently, following reports that gunmen have attack correctional facility and police investigations department in the city.

The unidentified gunmen reportedly invaded the Owerri Prison and CID, between 1-3.30 am, early Monday.

Reports also suggested that the Owerri Prison and State CID, were set ablaze by the unknown gunmen, freeing about 800 inmates, according to a report by The Nation.

The Correctional Facility is located near the State Government House, Owerri.

Also, hoodlums were said to have also attacked the Imo Police command headquarters where they freed several inmates.

Although the Imo State Police Command in the state was yet to speak on the attack as at the time of filling this report, report has it that the attack lasted for about 75 mins unhindered.
