The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has on Wednesday tested positive for Coronavirus.
This was revealed in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Benue State, Terver Akase on Wednesday.
Akase said Ortom, who had contracted the virus and recovered from it in the past, has now commenced treatment for the disease.
He also disclosed that the Governor took the test as some of his aides had tested positive for the virus in the past weeks.
The statement reads, “The lastest result of his (Governor Ortom) COVID-19 test has returned positive. This follows the test results of most of the Governor’s close aides who also returned positive in the last few weeks. Though the Governor has not shown any symptoms of the disease, he has already commenced treatment as prescribed by the medical personnel.”
It would be recalled that Ortom is a Nigerian politician, businessman, administrator and philanthropist.
He was a Minister of State Trade and Investments in Nigeria during the presidency of Goodluck Jonathan. Ortom was elected governor of Benue State as a member of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in 2015 before decamping to the opposition’s People’s Democratic Party. He was reelected as Governor in 2019.
