Chief (Mrs.) Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi, wife of late Nigerian Head of State, Major General J.T.U. Aguiyi-Ironsi, has passed on at the of age of 97 years.

It was gathered that the former First Lady died peacefully in the early hours of Monday.

Born on November 21, 1924, Victoria got married to Aguiyi-Ironsi as a student of Holy Rosary Convent School, Okigwe in 1953 aged 16.

She had served as a Commissioner for the Local Government Services Commission in Umuahia, Abia State.

Her husband, and the Supreme Commander of the National Military Government of Nigeria, was killed in the July 29, 1966 bloody coup d’etat in Nigeria.

Following the death of her husband, it is on record that Chief Mrs. Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi never re-married.

Her death comes few days days after the demise of Mrs. Hadiza Shagari, wife of former Nigerian leader, Shehu Shagari.
