The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended a former governor of Abia State, Senator Theodore Orji, alongside his sons, Chinedu and Ogbonna over corruption allegations.

It was gathered that the former Governor and his two sons: Chinedu — the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and Ogbonna were arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 10am on Thursday.

Orji and sons were then led to the headquarters of the EFCC at Jabi, Abuja where they are currently being interrogated on some corruption claims.

EFCC spokesman, Mr Wilson Uwujaren has also confirmed the arrest of the former governor.

Orji has been on the radar of the EFCC over allegations that he laundered public funds to the tune of N551 billion during his administration as the governor of Abia State.

The ex- governor was alleged to have embezzled the N500 million monthly security vote he received for eight years as governor of Abia state between 2007 and 2015.

Also, Orji is said to been interrogated on allegations that he mismanaged N2bn accrued from the Ecological Fund and conversion of Sure-P funds in the state.
