The impeachment letter sacking him as Speaker was signed by nine out of 10 members who were present at a sitting, Monday.

The Edo Assembly has been enmeshed in crisis since a controversial inauguration of only nine, out of 24 lawmakers-elect, on June 17, 2019, following an alleged proclamation by Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The 14 lawmakers, who were not part of the process rejected the process and asked the governor to issue a fresh proclamation, but the Governor has consistently cited a Rivers Federal High Court judgement that barred him from doing so.

The much crisis added to the rancorous build up to the Edo guber election won by Obaseki.
