- Kicks At Announcement of Ajimobi As Chairman
By Kolawole Ojebisi
In a self-styled manner, the Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Victor Giadom, has taken over as the party’s Acting National Chairman.
While declaring himself as the party’s National Chairman at a press conference in Abuja, Wednesday, Giadom said he has the backing of the members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on the decision.
However, with this development, stakeholders in the APC may soon be embroiled in another round of legal tussles as the announcement of former governor of Oyo state, Abiola Ajimobi as Acting National Chairman of the APC has been met with opposition.
On Tuesday, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Lanre Issa-Onilu has made the announcement following the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as the National Chairman of the APC upheld by the Appeal Court Tuesday.
In a swift reaction to Issa-Onilu’s announcement, Oluwole Afolabi, lawyer to Victor Giadom, the Deputy National Chairman of the APC, issued a press statement to counter the announcement of Ajimobi as the Acting National Chairman.
Afolabi maintained that the judgement that was upheld which led to the suspension of Oshiomhole said his client is to act as the National Chairman of the party.
The order according to Afolabi was issued by the FCT High Court on 16th March, 2020 by Hon. Justice S.U Nature in Suit No.FCT/ HC/M/6447/2020; he added that Onilu must have made the announcement “in complete ignorance” of this order.
He noted that order was given the same day that the court of appeal gave Oshiomhole a temporary respite by staying the execution of the order suspending Oshiomhole.
Afolabi, therefore, said, “Now that the court of Appeal has affirmed the order of suspension, it is only proper that the order recognizing Chief Victor Giadam is implemented ”
He said that anyone who attempts to parade themselves as the Acting National Chairman of the APC other than Chief Victor Giadom would be facing contempt of court proceedings.
“Consequently, we have written to all law enforcement agencies to implement the said order and any one who attempts to parade himself/herself other than Chief Victor Giadom as the Acting Chairman of the APC would be facing contempt of court proceedings,” he said.
