President Muhammadu Buhari has mourned the passing of his long-time friend, political associate, and media entrepreneur, Mallam Ismala Isa Funtua.

Funtua reportedly died of cardiac arrest Monday night, while undergoing routine medical check-up.

President Buhari condoled with family members, government and people of Katsina State, especially the media industry on the loss.

Funtua was life patron of the International Press Institute (IPI) and the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN).

Buhari in a condolence message released by Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President, described late Funtua as “greatly admired and respected’’.

According to the President, the demise of the publisher and businessman has created a huge gap as “Funtua consistently stood by him in his political journey’’.

The President prayed for the repose of Funtua’s soul, wishing his family, strength and fortitude to bear the loss.

Late Isa Funtua, the founding Managing Director of Kaduna based Democrat Newspaper died on Monday night.

Funtua was reported to have suffered a massive heart-attack during the medical check up.

He was 78 years old.
