The remains of the immediate past President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari have arrived in Katsina, Nigeria, on Tuesday afternoon, marking the beginning of a solemn state burial in his hometown of Daura.

The Nigerian Air Force aircraft carrying the late President’s remains touched down at exactly 2 pm on Tuesday, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima and other high-ranking officials.

Buhari, who passed away at 82 in a London hospital on Sunday, July 13, 2025, after a short illness, will be laid to rest at his private residence in Daura following Islamic funeral rites.

President Bola Tinubu personally received the former president’s remains at the Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina State.

Shortly after the arrival of Buhari’s remains, a brief military ceremony was held at the airport to honor the late president.

After the military ceremony, Tinubu led a procession to Daura, where dignitaries, traditional rulers, and thousands of mourners, are expected to pay their final respects.

Recall that Buhari died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a London clinic.

Buhari died at about 4:30pm after a brief illness.
