President Muhammadu Buhari is currently holding a closed-door meeting with the embattled Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, at the State House, Abuja.

While details of the meeting is yet to be known, the New Diplomat reports that it is coming amid controversies surrounding Emefiele.

The CBN Governor is currently the subject of investigation over several allegations against him, including corruption and terrorism financing.

The operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) weeks earlier had sought a court order to arrest Emefiele, but the request was rejected by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The DSS asked the court to order the arrest of the CBN governor over alleged “acts of financing terrorism, fraudulent activities and economic crimes of national security dimension.”

The meeting also comes few weeks before the expiration of the old N200, N500 and N100 Naira notes.

It would be recalled that the CBN had redesigned the N200, N500 and N1,000 notes, while also declaring that the old denominations would cease to be a legal tender by January 31, 2022.

More to come soon…
