The supreme court  on Wednesday dismissed a suit seeking the nullification of the election of Bayelsa state Governor, Senator Douye Diri and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

In its judgment, the apex court  upheld the election of Governor Diri and his deputy, Senator Ewhrudjakpor as the duly and properly elected governor and deputy governor of Bayelsa State, respectively.

In a landmark and unanimous judgment read by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, the Supreme Court quashed the six appeals filed against Governor Diri and his deputy, Ewhrudjakpor.

While delivering the judgment, Justice Ngwuta said the appeals fail because the six appeals were withdrawn by lawyers of the applicants.

Meanwhile,  the appeals dismissed include those filed by Alliance for Democracy, Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party, Accord Party  and Labour Movement.

Recall that Diri, the candidate of the PDP in last year’s Bayelsa state governorship election came second in the election which saw Chief David Lyon of the APC emerging top and victorious.

However, Lyon’s election later suffered a set back as he was knocked off by the Supreme court on grounds that the deputy-governor elect had multiple identity or certificates issues.

This consequently paved the way for Diri who was declared  governor  having come second at the governorship poll.

More details later…
