- Statement Dripping With Grammatical Blunders, Triggering Concern
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has gone into self-isolation after he had contact with a man who tested positive to coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.
The governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mukhtar Gidado, announced this in a statement on Monday.
According to him, Governor Mohammed took the decision after the contact, the son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, was confirmed to have been infected by the virus.

“This development is sequel to the report from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) that the son of the former Vice President of Nigeria, Mohammed Atiku Abubakar was tested positive to coronavirus upon his return from an international trip through Lagos,” Gidado revealed.
He added that the governor, who returned from an official trip to Lagos, met with Atiku’s son on the plane where both men shook hands and exchanged pleasantries.
Gidado, however, noted that the governor has not shown any symptom of the disease but would remain in isolation to prevent any possible spread of the virus.
“Currently, the blood sample of the governor has been taken and is undergoing a clinical test.
“For the period of the clinical testing, the governor and his entourage will remain in isolation pending the outcome of the clinical result,” the governor’s aide said.
Meanwhile, the statement released by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Gidado has got a lot of commentators talking as it was riddled with sundry errors, omissions, misplaced conjunctions and incoherent sentence structures. While some said he shouldn’t be cut any slack for the blunders, others were of the opinion that perhaps, the statement was influenced by the COVID-19 anxiety which has continued to jangle nerves, more so, in the light of the development concerning his boss who is currently taking some self isolation measures.
The New Diplomat took some time to pinpoint some of the glaring errors in the statement. In fact, every paragraph is riddled with grammatical blunders, prompting several questions about the suitability and qualification of the fellow in question. In many advanced democracies, appointees to such office usually posses in-depth skill-set in communications, journalism, media, PR and English acquired from top-grade universities. It is however, not clear what Gidado’s background is. See the Statement below:
Earlier, The New Diplomat in its COVID-19 Statistical update on the Nigerian situation had reported that so far, the NCDC has confirmed 36 cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria from Abuja, Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, and Oyo states, announcing Nigeria’s first recorded from the pandemic.
