Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday inaugurated campaign support groups nationwide, an indication that he’s likely to throw his hat in the ring again for the 2023 presidential race in the country.
In launching the support group, Atiku, the 2019 presidential candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP) set aside his previous failures in getting the nation’s most coveted job, as well as the ongoing vociferous argument on the need to zone parties’ presidential tickets to the South in 2023 as North would have completed eight years in power by then.

Dubbed, ‘the Atiku Support Group’, the organization was reported to have drawn representatives from the 36 states of the federation, extending its political structure to the ward level in every local government, mounting a formidable war-chest.
Launched in Abuja, Thursday, the group’s workings are to be spearheaded by Abubakar Kabir Babawo as Director General and Atiku Aminu Mohammed as Chairman.
The inauguration of the Atiku’s newly constituted political structure comes as political chess players have started scheming in over two years to the 2023 general elections.
The New Diplomat had reported that former Lagos Governor, Bola Tinubu in Ibadan on Tuesday, flagged off what his political supporters termed as the South-West 2023 Agenda, kick-starting a likely full-blown war among political gladiators in the ruling All Progressives Congress who are already eyeing the party’s presidential ticket in 2023.
Speaking at the inauguration, the North-Central coordinator of the Atiku Support Group, Anngu Orngu said, he accepted the appointment because “improving the livelihood of Nigerians is of utmost priority to Atiku Abubakar. He has demonstrated this in numerous capacities which is why we the Nigerian youth want him to be president come 2023.
“We will not rest till he is elected the president of Nigeria. If he is elected as the president of Nigeria, he will be pro-active in addressing the insecurity challenges facing the country, attract foreign investments and give support to millions of small and medium scale enterprises in addition to 40% youth inclusiveness in government”.
