The New Diplomat had reported Tuesday that the suspension of the strike action was imminent.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige had on Monday said the federal government has met 98% of the demands made by ASUU.

At the end of Tuesday’s deliberations with ASUU, Ngige said the proposals presented to the union by the government are “win-win situation proposals made for the enhancement of the academic institutions in the country.

“We started on a nine-point complaint, and a lot of the complaints have been addressed. Today we conclusively addressed the leftovers.”

“We have had very incisive deliberations. We have crossed some t’s and dotted some i’s in the past proposals given to ASUU by government, and the areas of concern have also been addressed,” Ngige said.

While briefing journalists, Ogunyemi warned that the lecturer will continue with the industrial action should the federal government renege on the agreed terms.

The payment of arrears has been at the heart of the deliberations between the government and ASUU as the lecturers had insisted on the settling of the arrears by the FG before calling off the strike.

Among other concerns, ASUU had asked the government to exempt its members from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) pending the approval of the proposed payment system – the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) favoured by the union.
