Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has established a wide margin of lead over his main challengers in the Ondo governorship election held Saturday.

The New Diplomat reports that results uploaded on the INEC portal: inecelectionresults.com show he has surged ahead of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mr Eyitayo Jegede and the Zenith Labour candidate (ZLP) candidate, Hon Agboola Ajayi.

Already INEC official results from more than 90% of the wards have been logged in on the portal as of the time of this reporting.Akeredolu and Jegede Ajayi

While Akeredolu is ahead in many of the 18 local government Areas in the state, the Governor only went neck-and-neck with PDP’s Jegede in few LGAs.

Like The New Diplomat rightly projected in a pre-election analysis, results show Akeredolu’s votes were not fractured in his Ondo North domain.

Elsewhere, the APC has penetrated Jegede’s Ondo Central, as well as Ondo South where ZLP’s Ajayi hails from.

While Jegede will clinch Akure South, his LGA in straight victory, Akeredolu is on course to win a number of LGAs in Central Ondo.

Results posted strong showing for Akeredolu in Owo, Odigbo, Ile-Oluji, Irele, Idanre and Ondo West.

Meanwhile, Ajayi, who only showed dominance in his Odigbo LGA is still in the shadow of both Akeredolu and Jegede on the results sheets so far.

INEC is expected to start announcing the collated results from the LGAs on National TV any time soon.
