Evander Holyfield appeared to be on course for a boxing comeback against Mike Tyson after he released more training footage on Tuesday.

The 57-year-old hasn’t fought in the ring since beating Brian Nielsen in May 2011.

But Holyfield, a former undisputed cruiserweight and heavyweight champion, looked in superb shape as he hit the mitts and the bag during a training session.

“I’d like to announce that I will be making a comeback to the ring. I will be fighting in exhibition matches for a great cause: #Unite4OurFight.”

In his post on Instagram, Holyfield added: “I’m training to promote a charity that’s very close to me.

“Our #Unite4OurFight campaign aims to fill the void the pandemic has created on access to resources our youth needs for emotional development and education.”

Meanwhile, Tyson has stepped up his return after he posted more footage of his intense training sessions on Monday.

The 53-year-old, who suffered back-to-back losses to Holyfield and was disqualified in his second fight after biting his opponent’s ear, has also said he is preparing to take part in four-round exhibition fights for charity.

Speaking last week, Tyson’s new trainer, Rafael Cordeiro, revealed that the former heavyweight champion still possesses ferocious punching power.

“As soon as we started training I said, ‘my lord’. I didn’t know what to expect. He hadn’t hit mitts for I think almost 10 years, I didn’t expect to see what I saw,” Cordeiro told ESPN. “I saw a guy with the same speed, same power as guys who are 21, 22 years old.

“And I can tell, you’ll have to be a good guy to spar with Mike. If you’re not prepared you’ll get dropped, for sure.

“The power is a different level. I’ve trained a lot of heavyweights in my career. When you talk about his power… his right hook I can feel it, you can tell, it could kill somebody.

“In the beginning, for sure [I was nervous]. After the second round, I felt more okay.

“When I hold mitts I like put them close to my face with all my fighters. The first time I saw his right hook [come close to my face] I saw all my life [flash before my eyes]. My wife, my daughters, my dog, I saw everything, it was like I was gonna die… it was the fear.

“All the time I hold the mitts, any kind of combination, he pushed me outside of the mat. He put pressure, pressure, pressure.

“Mike Tyson’s game as everyone knows it is pressure. The same way he fights is the same way he trains.”
