The Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos state granted an order remanding a police officer, ASP Drambi Vandi, who shot dead a Lagos-based lawyer, Bolanle Raheem on Christmas Day, December 25, 2022.

This was sequel to a one-count charge filed by the Attorney-General of Lagos State, Moyosore Onigbanjo. The AGF filed a murder charge against Vandi, praying the court to convict the cop of unlawful killing.

“That you ASP DRAMBI VANDI (M) on the 25th day of December 2022 at Ajah Round About along Lekki-Epe Express Way, Lagos within the Lagos State Magisterial District unlawfully killed one OMOBOLANLE RAHEEM (F) by shooting the deceased in the chest contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Law Ch. C17 Vol. 3 Laws of Lagos State, 2015,” the charge sheet reads.

During court hearing on Friday, the Chief Magistrate, Adeola Olatunbosun, remanded Vandi in prison.

The suspect will remain at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, Lagos State till January 30, 2023.

It would be recalled that Bolanle was coming from an eatery with some family members on Christmas Day and had tried to make a U-turn under the Ajah Bridge when the policeman shot at her vehicle.

The bullet hit the 41-year-old as she was rushed to a hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

The slain lawyer, who had a child, was seven-month pregnant when the tragedy struck amid festivities.
