Factional leader of the Boko Haram insurgent group, Abubakar Shekau, has announced the appointment of Abu Muhammad as the new ‘Amirul Jaysh’, (Commander of War).

According to a source quoted by the PRNigeria, Shekau murdered the former commander of war, Abu Fatimah, for alleged betrayal of the terrorist group.

The source also disclosed that two other senior commanders were murdered by Shekau, including Amirul Fi’ya, who is the son of Alhaji Modu Katakauma, a renowned businessman from Bama in Borno State.

“Following an internal dispute, Shekau killed Abu Fatima, one other Commander and Amirul Fi’ya, who is a son to a renowned Bama businessman, Alhaji Modu Katakauma,” the source added.

Shekau, who is currently a factional leader of Boko Haram, had once served as the deputy leader to the group’s founder, Mohammed Yusuf. He became the leader in 2009, following the death of Yusuf.

In 2012, a faction of Boko Haram broke out of the the parent group to form Jamaat Ansar al-Muslimin fi Bilād as-Sudan (Ansaru), as a result of the erratic leadership of Shekau.

Recall also that Shekau has been rumored dead several times, however, he debunked the rumors, as he still purportedly commands a faction of the Jihadist sect, terrorising Northern Nigeria, particularly in the Northeastern region.
