  • Says FG Shouldn’t Turn Nigeria to North Korea

By Kolawole Ojebisi

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has reacted to the ongoing occupation of the party’s secretariat in Abuja by officers of the Nigeria Police Force, warning the Government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against turning Nigeria to a South-Korea or Russia.

The New Diplomat had reported how policemen besieged the opposition party’s secretariat apparently to prevent its National Executive Council (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) meetings slated for Monday.

Members of the PDP BoT, including the elder stateman, Bode George, were reportedly denied access to the premises of the secretariat.

Reacting to the development, George said, “It’s strikingly annoying. This is our property. Was there any court order to say we will not hold our meeting in our office? What is going on? I was a young man in 1962 when it all started in the South West. we must avoid that madness. What is it? Can’t we sit and talk? What is the essence of democracy?

“Nigerians are watching, you came to our office, surrounded by police because we want to have a meeting? You want to turn us to North Korea or turn this country to Russia? We will not allow it, Nigerians will not allow it.”

The former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP in the Southwest insisted that the party will not be cowed into silence by the police, stressing that the meeting would go as planned.

He, however, did not disclose where the meeting would be held.
