The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), has issued a stern warning to citizens who mishandle or desecrate the national currency, the Naira.

The commission stated that if raising awareness through preaching fails to drive the message home, it will resort to prosecutions and convictions.

TheNewDiplomat reports that Bobrisky on Friday was sentenced to a six-month prison without an option of fine by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

In her judgment, Justice Awogboro stated that the sentence should serve as a deterrent to others who might consider engaging in similar acts of disrespecting and mutilating the national currency.

Hours after the judgment, the EFCC, in a post on its official X account, stated that Bobrisky’s conviction serves as a reminder of the legal consequences of mishandling the national currency.

In a bid to emphasize the seriousness of the matter, the EFCC suggested that those doubting the consequences should seek guidance from Bobrisky.

The commission’s warning underscores its commitment to upholding the sanctity of the naira and deterring acts that undermine its value and integrity.

The EFCC further stated that those who refuse to stop abusing the naira will not have an excuse when the agency comes knocking at their door.

“Say No To Abuse of the Naira. If preaching will not send the message, conviction will,” EFCC wrote on X.

“Say No To Abuse of the Naira

“If preaching will not send the message, conviction will.#EFCCNigeria #SayNoToAbuseoftheNaira,” the commission added.
