Cameroonian President Paul Biya has arrived at Yaounde Nsimalen International Airport in Yaounde, the Cameroon’s Capital, after a long stay in Geneva, Switzerland.

Biya returned to the country following emergency reports suggesting he was terminally ill.

Biya, the 91-year-old leader of Cameroon appeared on television after the presidential plane landed, shaking hands with Cameroonian government officials as a jubilant crowd waited to greet him.

Aircraft flight tracking sites showed that a Boeing with aircraft registration CMR001, previously used to transport Biya, left late Monday morning from Geneva, where he had been residing for several weeks, according to official sources.

It would be recalled that rumours emerged earlier this month suggesting that Biya is battling with a serious illness while some suggested that the Cameroonian President had purportedly passed away.

The Cameroonian president successively cancelled appearances at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) summit, and the Sustainable Development Forum in Hamburg, Germany.

However, in a swift response, the government released a statement debunking the rumours, saying the President would be back in the country in the next few days.
