Jigawa State governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has told opposition lawmakers, particularly those from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to start counting their days in the hallowed chambers of the National Assembly, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Namadi maintained that legislators elected on political platforms other than the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will not be re-elected in the next election cycle as the electorate are now wiser and more enlightened than they were in 2023.

The governor made this claim in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Inter Party Affairs, Bala Idi Kazaure, on Monday

According to the statement, Namadi spoke on Saturday during a Citizens’ Engagement Programme tagged “Gwamnati da Jama’a” held in Dutse Local Government Area.

The statement added that the event also featured the defection of “over 3,500 members of the PDP and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)”.

While addressing party supporters, including the new defectors, Namadi declared: “The elected members of the National Assembly from the opposition parties should start counting their days in the Red and Green Chambers,” Namadi was quoted to have said.

“The people will no longer vote for them; they will vote APC in 2027.” the governor added.

Namadi ascribed the growing popularity of the APC in Jigawa State to his administration’s commitment to human and capital development.

“The All Progressives Congress (APC) is gaining more acceptance in the Jigawa Southwestern zone due to our strong commitment to both human and capital development,” he stated.

He added: “With what we are witnessing these days in Birnin Kudu, Buji, and now Dutse, all in this zone there is no doubt the APC is the party the people trust,” the governor declared.
