Several financial institutions, telecom providers, airlines, broadcast networks and several other businesses and companies have been experiencing massive downtime as a result of a widespread technology outage which hit the globe.

The New Diplomat gathered that major United States airlines, including Delta, United, and American Airlines, are currently experiencing a system-wide ground stop on Friday due to a technical communication subject matter.

Also, several eye-witnesses who spoke with the press on Friday revealed that passengers at Edinburgh Airport, Scotland, experienced difficulties utilizing automated boarding pass scanners due to security monitors displaying a “server offline” message.

Likewise, flights have been suspended at Berlin Brandenburg Airport in Germany due to a “technical problem”.

The authorities of the airport in a terse statement said: “There are delays to check-in, and flight operations had to be cancelled until 10:00 am (0800 GMT.”

In Spain, several airports are experiencing “disruptions” from an IT outage. Meanwhile, Australian telecommunications firm Telstra suggested the outages were caused by “global issues” plaguing software provided by Microsoft and cybersecurity company CrowdStrike.

Microsoft said in a statement it was taking “mitigation actions” in response to service issues.

It was not clear if those were linked to the global outages.

“Our services are still seeing continuous improvements while we continue to take mitigation actions,” Microsoft said in a post on social media platform X.

Some reports have also linked the widespread outage to Windows workstations.
