Armed bandits on Thursday morning invaded a mosque in Maradawa, Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting several worshippers during the early morning (Subhi) prayers, reports said.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers, who arrived in large numbers, surrounded the mosque before whisking away an unspecified number of people into a nearby forest, according to SaharaReporters, an online medium.

The assault has reportedly thrown the community into panic, with anxious residents awaiting news about the fate of the abducted victims.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Zamfara State Government nor security agencies had issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Local sources said efforts were already underway to secure the release of the abducted worshippers.

Thursday’s attack comes barely three weeks after bandits invaded a mosque in Yandoto community, Tsafe Local Government Area of the state, where at least five people were killed and several others kidnapped during prayers.
