The leader of the pan Yoruba sociopolitical group, Afenifere, and stalwart of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), Pa Ayo Adebanjo, who passed away on February 14, 2025, at the age of 96, is scheduled to be buried on May 3, 2025, in his hometown of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria.

Late Chief Ayo Adebanjo’s family which announced that the burial will take place next month said the ceremony will be marked by a series of commemorative events, including a Day of Tributes and Service of Songs at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos.

According to a statement by the Ayo Adebanjo’s family, the burial ceremony itself will begin with a wake at his country home in Isanya Ogbo, Ijebu Ode, followed by his interment and a reception for guests at his residence.

This statement was signed by Ms Ayotunde Ayo-Adebanjo, Mrs Adeola Azeez, and Mr Obafemi Ayo-Adebanjo on behalf of the Ayo Adebanjo’s family.

A Thanksgiving service is scheduled for May 4 at St Phillips Anglican Church, Alanya Ogbo, ljebu Ode, Ogun state, by 10am.

The statement reads in part: “We covet your prayers for the family and your professional support as we continue with preparations to give him a most befitting burial. We also look forward to your esteemed presence at all the events. Please accept the assurances of our highest regards.”
