Residents in Akwa, the Anambra state capital, have stayed away from their businesses, workplaces and streets, hours to tomorrow’s election.
It was gathered that many banks in Akwa are shut with streets deserted with only few cars plying major roads.
Residents who spoke with the press said the decision to stay at home was in line with the directive of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
IPOB had initially issued a threat to implement its sit-at-home order from Friday, November 5, 2021 unless its leader, Nnamdi Kanu is freed from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
However, on Thursday, the group rescinded its earlier directive following the intervention of leaders and other stakeholders. The group also urged all residents in Anambra to go about their normal businesses.
