After much antics, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, had finally held a meeting in London, United Kingdom (UK), Thursday.

Also present at the meeting were Governors Samuel Ortom of Benue State; Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state.

The meeting came hours after former president Olusegun Obasanjo, presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi and Wike had met.

Recall Wike had earlier met the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu in London two days ago, prompting Atiku to jet out of Nigeria to London, Wednesday amid palpable concerns in the opposition’s PDP.

The New Diplomat reports that sundry political meetings and alignments have been going on both in and out of the country, a development which might not be unconnected with developing strategies ahead of the 2023 presidential elections.

While details of the meeting have not been officially disclosed, it is believed to be part of fence-mending moves by Atiku.

Recall that Wike had been aggrieved since the outcome of the presidential primary election of the PDP, which he lost to Atiku.

His grievances were fuelled by the decision of Atiku to snub him for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state as the Vice-Presidential candidate of the party.

Since the 2023 crisis started in the PDP, the camp loyal to Wike has continued to demand for the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu from the National Chairman of the party on the grounds that the South is being sidelined in the affairs of the party.

Wike loyalists had argued that the North cannot produce both the National chairman and the presidential candidate of the party at the same time.

However, loyalists of Atiku, have since rejected the arguments, saying Ayu can only resign when their principal is sworn in as the president of Nigeria.

More details to follow…
