Economic and commercial activities have been grounded on Monday, June 3, 2024, following the commencement of a nationwide strike by organised labour.

The New Diplomat reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have called for a national strike over refusal of the Federal Government to increase its latest offer of N60,000 as a minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

The labour unions had expressed concerns and disappointment over the government’s failure to finalise and pass a new National Minimum Wage Act into law.

Following labour’s declaration of the strike, many unions have proclaimed their backing, and directed their members to join the mass protest. They include:
