The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has disclosed that the reported side effects from the use of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine in Nigeria have been mild.

The New Diplomat had reported that some European Countries had suspended the use of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine following the reported cases of blood clot among people who have received the vaccine.

Following the growing concerns about the side effects of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, NPHCDA assured Nigerians that there hasn’t been any reported case of blood clot.

According to the NPHCDA, the reported side effects from those that have been administered the vaccines have been mild, adding that there is no cause for alarm.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by Mohammad Ohitoto, Public Relations Officer (PRO), NPHCDA, on Friday.

The NPHCDA further encouraged those that have being prioritised in the current phase of vaccination program to make themselves available for vaccination, as the agency is committed to the safety of everyone.

The statement reads, “While we await the outcome of the investigations, it is important to clearly state that Nigeria did not receive any doses from the batch of vaccines which are at issue. Vaccinations in Nigeria started earlier this month and we have not observed any similar adverse reactions. All side effects reported by those who have been administered the vaccine have been mild. In the meantime, we encourage Nigerians who are among those being prioritised in the current phase to continue their confidence and enthusiasm for our vitally important national vaccine programme. Together, we can save lives.”
