Leaders of the apex umbrella body of youths in Yoruba land–Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide (YCYW) have condemned in its entirety, the gruesome attack on Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II).

Unknown assailants had attacked the palace of the Ooni of Ife and Co-chair, National Council of Traditional Leaders in Nigeria on Wednesday 20th May, 2020 located at the Ile Oodua, Enuwa, Ile-ife in Osun State.

The leaders in a statement signed by the President of YCYW, Aremo Oladotun Hassan and made available to The New Diplomat described the attack as the “height of sacrilege, monumental provocation and umpardonable threats against the highest spiritual stool of authority in the entire Yoruba Land.”

The group while noting that it received the worrisome news with grave shock and disbelief, saluted the courageous dexterity and uncommon professionalism displayed by the security guards for overpowering the dreaded assailants, whose evil mission is yet to be unraveled.

The group called on President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the incident, asking the President to get to the root of the attack and smoke out the perpetrators, as well as bring them to book.

“We hereby call on President Muhammadu Buhari to order for a thorough investigation to be headed by the Inspector General of Police and ensure anyone found culpable is ruthlessly dealt with decisively and prosecuted accordingly.

“In the same vein, we call on all critical stakeholders particularly all governors, elders, women, youths, political and traditional leaders of the Southwest Zone to collectively call for an emergency security meeting over these heinous crime, pending which adequate watertight security beef up and non stop surveillance system is put in place at the Palace and all other palaces too, while demanding and ensuring to provide the best team of well trained and powerfully fortified central palace security guards.

“We call for an immediate construction of ile-ife city gate with bold entry gate with CCTV cameras and other monitoring features, while mounting of same mini gates at the other entry and exit points: Ede, Osu- Ilesha and Ondo routes.

“We call a maximum daily street to street patrol by well equipped team in and around Ile-ife and it’s environs.

“The Palace Guards should be drawn from trusted best of the best in each state regiments of Amotekun Security Network to collaborate and provide maximum security for Oonirisa forthwith.

“We believe this is the handy work of evil provocateur, hell bent to cause monumental chaos in Yoruba Land,” the statement read.
