As Gov Okowa, Wife, Daughter Contract Covid-19, Delta Reps’ Caucus, PDP Send Powerful Message

  • State Racks Up 166 Cases In One Day

Members of the Delta State caucus of the House of Representatives and the State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), have sent a ‘get well soon’ message to the Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, his wife, Dame Edith and daughter over their coronarvirus status.

Governor Okowa had in the early hours of Wednesday announced his COVID-19 positive status alongside that his wife, Edith barely six days after one of their daughter tested positive for the virus.

The governor who had been on self isolation with his wife, Wednesday, said the COVID-19 test carried out on himself and wife returned positive.

In a get well message, Delta Reps caucus assured the governor, and wife of their support and prayers, saying that they are stoutly behind them at this critical time.

The caucus urged them to be strong maintaining that being positive to Covid-19 is not by any way a death sentence.

“Your Excellency, we the members of the Delta State House of Reps caucus wish you, your dear wife and members of your family well. It is our sincere prayer that you all will come out of this in good health to the glory of the Lord God Almighty.

“Covid-19, like you have told Deltans, is not a death sentence in any way and it is our firm believe that in no distant time, you and your family will all come out stronger,” the caucus said.

While commending the Governor for his sincerity, transparency and proactive management of the pandemic in the State, the caucus called on resident of the State to adhere strictly to the Covid-19 preventive measure put in place by the NCDC, Federal and State Ministries of Health.

They further noted that the only way to flatten the Covid-19 graph in the state and the country as a whole is by way of obedience to the protocol and guidelines on the pandemic as directed by the various health authorities.

The statement was signed by Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, Chairman of Delta House of Representatives caucus Rt. Hon. Victor Nwaokolo, Rt Hon Nicholas Mutu, Rt Hon Leonard Ogor,  Hon. Nicholas Ossai,  Hon Julius Pondi,  Hon Efe Afe, Hon Ben Igbakpa,  Hon Thomas Ereyitomi and Hon Francis Waive.

Meanwhile, the State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) has empathized with Governor Okowa, and his wife,following the news released by the Governor himself, that they had tested positive for Covid-19.

In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, the party expressed its solid support for the Delta State Governor, his dear wife, and family, at this trying time, urging him to be firm in faith and strong in the conviction that this is a situation that will soon pass away.

“Your Excellency, the Delta PDP family wish you, your dear wife, and members of your family presently inconvenienced by this unwanted situation, a speedy recovery.

“Covid-19, like you have told Deltans, is not in any way a death sentence and your inspirational leadership and proactive management of this pandemic has further strengthened our belief that you and your family will all come out stronger, and healthier in no distant time

“We commended your Excellency for the sincerity, honesty, and transparency you have continually exhibited, especially as it concerns you and your family since the outbreak of this pandemic and we join our prayers with those of your well wishers all over the world that the God Lord will touch you and your family with His Divine healing at this time.

“We also strongly call on Deltans to adhere strictly to the Covid-19 preventive measures put in place by the NCDC, the State government, as well as Federal and State Ministries of Health, amid rising positive cases of the pandemic in the State. It is now obvious to one and all that Covid-19 is real.

“Get well soon Your Excellency and our dear First Lady. God Bless and keep you and your family. Amen.”

Meanwhile, Delta state delivered a single day record of 166 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday as Nigeria also recorded its highest daily rate of 790 cases.

The state seized control of the daily leaderboard, from the usual leader Lagos, which recorded 120 cases on the day.
