Herrlich, 48, left Augsburg hotel to go to a supermarket and buy toothpaste, breaching the regulations laid out by German Football League and Bundesliga officials.

Herrlich had earlier said: “I have no toothpaste and then I went to a supermarket.”

And in a statement, Herrlich added: “I made a mistake by leaving the hotel.

“Even though I have followed all hygiene measures both when leaving the hotel and otherwise, I cannot undo this.

“In this situation, I was not able to act as a role model for my team and the public.

“I will therefore be consistent and stand by my mistake.

“Because of this misconduct, I will not be leading the training [on Friday] and will not be in charge of the team against Wolfsburg on Saturday.”

The game against Wolfsburg would have been Herrlich’ s first match in charge of Augsburg having been appointed in March.
Herrlich will only be able to return after two negative tests for COVID-19.

Augsburg are currently just five points above the relegation zone in 14th ahead of their return to action.

Bazee, 23, is eligible to represent Nigeria through his father and Germany through his mother.

He has so far been approached by Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr to switch his allegiance to Nigeria.

In 2017 he was named to the Eagles squad for the March friendlies against Senegal and Burkina Faso.

This Season he has made just two appearances for Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

Bundesliga literally means “Federal League”, or league of the whole country.

The word is used in the countries Germany and in Austria. That is why Germany’s football league is the best-known as Bundesliga.

Herrlich is a German football manager and a former forward.
