The Nigerian Army has confirmed that eight persons were killed in Tuesday morning explosion in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
The acting Director Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, said, the terrorists attempted to detonate at a checkpoint but the troops prevented it.
“It is true. But the casualty figure is 8. They attempted to detonate at a checkpoint but they were denied access by troops and as they turned back, it exploded killing all the occupants,” Usman disclosed.
Borno State Police Public Relations officer in the state, Victor Izukwu also confirmed the explosion. He said the explosion happened along Gubio road just before the military check point.

He said the preliminary report shows that a pick up van with four persons onboard, emerged from a bush path to join the road to Gubio town and a moments later, it exploded, killing all the persons onboard.
Izukwu added that details of the attack was still sketchy and promised to furnish more information as it emerges.
