The All Progressives Congress (APC) and community leaders in Lagos have been thrown into mourning following the death of Oluwakemi Rufai, the only female member of the Ibeju-Lekki Legislative Council, barely two weeks after she was sworn into office.

Rufai, who represented Ward C1 in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, reportedly died in the early hours of Wednesday after a brief illness.

Her passing was confirmed by the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LG, Sesan Olowa, and the Chairman of Lekki Local Council Development Area, Rasaki Kasali, who both described the news as a devastating loss to the council and the community.

In a statement, Lagos APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo described Rufai as a “rising star within the party” who embodied commitment, grassroots service, and gender inclusion. He noted that despite her short time in office, she demonstrated unwavering dedication to community development and loyalty to the party’s ideals.

Oladejo extended the party’s condolences to her family, constituents, and the Ibeju-Lekki community, adding that her “legacy of service, courage, and vision will not be forgotten.”
