Following the nullification of votes for candidates of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the last governorship and House of Assembly elections in Zamfara state by the Supreme Court and the directive that candidates and parties with the second highest votes should be declared winners,  Dr. Bello Muhammad Mutawalle of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is now the governor-elect of the state.

Results of the governorship election as declared by the returning officer for the state, Prof Kabiru Bala showed that Alhaji Mukhtar Shehu Idris of APC got 534,541 votes while Dr Bello Muhammad Mutawalle of the PDP polled 189,452 votes. The candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) Senator Dansadau scored 15,177 votes while Dr Abdullahi Shinkafi of APGA garnered 3,865 votes.

This will be the first time that PDP will be producing the governor of Zamfara State since 1999.

The APC was also declared as winner of all the House of Assembly seats while PDP candidates emerged as runners-up. This therefore means that PDP will have one hundred percent control of the state legislature
