Ahead of the national convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the chairperson of Yari for National Assignment, Mrs Rahila Caleb has called on President Muhammadu Buhari, the national leaders of the party and national delegates to support the candidature of former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari for the national chairman of the party.
Mrs Caleb, a Kaduna based political figure who is heading the Yari campaign for the national chairmanship position urged the leadership of the party to throw its weight behind Yari’s ambition.
While declaring that her principal is “eminently qualified”, she vouched for his suitability for the position, saying “Yari has all what it takes to lead the party to victory come 2023 general elections”.
Speaking in an interview with journalists in Kaduna, the Group’s Chairperson said former Governor Yari is a strong party man who had served as state party Chairman in Zamfara. His performance during the period, he said, led to his endorsement to become Governor of Zamfara State “and served meritoriously for eight years of two terms.
”He is a veteran democrat, an astute administrator and a grass root mobiliser and a loyal party man who has never left the party to any other political party since it’s formation.
”We are certain that he will bring his wealth of experience to bare on the party and preserve it’s sanctity as a ruling party beyond 2023”.
Speaking further, Caleb disclosed that already: “we have a support base of over 2.5 million for Yari on standby”
Thus therefore she appeals to party members and individuals to rally support for Yari to emerge victorious for the good of the party.
“We therefore call President Muhammadu Buhari, National Leader of the party, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, Caretaker committee Chairman and Governor Mai Bala Buni to ensure that due process is followed during the party national Convention for a free and fair election to hold.
“We will not hesitate to take necessary steps if anything contrary to free and fair election is done during the national convention including shifting our support base” the group said.
