Barely two weeks Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike raised the alarm that some Governors in the Niger Delta region may have Misappropriated the humongous amount of money allocated to them by President Mahmoud Buhari from the 13% derivation deduction refund, the Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy Governorship Aspirant, Honourable Friday Ossai Osanebi has implored Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to render an accurate account on how the funds were deployed to the benefits of the people.
Honourable Osanebi who disclosed that not less than two hundred and sixty billion naira (₦260bn) was collected as derivation refund by the Delta State government, enjoined Governor Okowa to explain to the Ndokwa nation how about one hundred and thirty billion naira (₦130bn) was expended without corresponding evidence of its utilisation.
The Deputy Governorship Aspirant at a ward to ward campaign in Ndokwa West Local government area during the week, posited that the Ndokwa people was entitled to fifty percent (50%} of the total 13% derivation deduction refund thus far collected. He noted in dismay that despite the collection of this huge monetary allocation meant primarily for development, the Ndokwa nation remains a shadow of her proud past.
Osanebi who described the seven and half years of Governor Okowa led government as a colossal waste to Delta and season of great deprivation to the Ndokwa nation in particular as there is nothing to compensate the people for their enormous contribution to the nation’s economy.
His words: ” As a presiding officer, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly I know the law establishing DESOPADEC. My State Chairman had asked Deltans to demand from Governor Okowa the ₦260billion derivation deduction refund. The Deputy Governorship Aspirant, however, insisted that the total sum accrued to the Ndokwa nation must be disbursed to her for the provision of basic amenities for the people and development of the various communities.
The campaign train which had prominent APC members, visited virtually every nooks and crannies in Ndokwa West council.
