A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams, has passed away at the age of 39 years.
Adams who is representing the Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency of Kaduna State at the House of Representatives, on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), was said to have died in the early hours of Tuesday.
The lawmaker was the chairman of the House Committee on Sports.
His passing has been confirmed in a statement issued by the Spokesperson of the house, Hon. Akin Rotimi.
Rotkmi described Adams as a lawmaker who was a “dedicated public servant, passionate sports administrator, and kind philanthropist”.
He said Adams was a “kind and gentle humanitarian, loved by all who knew him”, adding that his dedication to the development of grassroots sports in Nigeria was “unwavering” and that his contributions to the house will be deeply missed.
The New Diplomat reports that Adams was the former general manager of Kada City Football Club and Remo Stars, before winning the House of Representatives seat in the 2023 general election.
It would be recalled that this tragic passing is coming less than a week after the death of Hon Olaide Adewale Akinremi, a member of the House of Representatives, who represented Ibadan north federal constituency of Oyo State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akinremi died weeks after the demise of Isa Dogonyaro, a member of the House of Representatives, who represented the Babura/Garki federal constituency of Jigawa state.
Dogonyaro died in May after a brief illness.
With his passing, Adams is the third member of the lower legislative chamber to die in 2024.
