A self-acclaimed O’odua Activist, Mr Sunday Adeyemo, otherwise known as Igboho, drew widespread condemnation from Nigerians on Sunday as he asked those commiserating with the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye over the demise of his son, Dare, to stop doing so.
The New Diplomat had reported that Dare, the third child of Adeboye passed away in his sleep on Thursday, at the age of 42. Nigerians from all works of life have continued to commiserate with the revered clergy. President Muhammadu Buhari has also sent his condolences to Adeboye.
However, in his derisive reaction to Dare Adeboye’s death, Igboho said he has no condolences to offer to the renowned pastor. Giving his reason, Igboho stated that Adeboye is not in support of his activism for the actualisation of the Yoruba nation.
Igboho who reacted in a viral video criticised Adeboye for refusing to support his secession agenda, raining curses on leaders who refused to support the actualisation of the Yoruba nation.
In his words: “Has Baba supported the Yoruba nation that we will now be greeting him? We don’t need to greet Adeboye. What is my own with that? We are not doing church here. This is not religion.
“What we are doing is not about religion. Even our clerics are blocking our path. We don’t need to commiserate with Adeboye, what’s my business with that?
“Adeboye has never spoken about the Yoruba issue. Look at how huge his congregation is, why hasn’t he spoken for the Yoruba Nation? We don’t need to commiserate with him.
“God himself will judge those who have not supported us, may He continue to kill their wives and children since they don’t want us to reach our promised land.
“Whoever does not support Yoruba Nation but have the crowd in their churches, God I invoke you, you own me and everything I own belongs to you, and they have seen how Fulanis kidnap us and demand ransom, continue to kill their wives and children. So be it!”
The comments of Igboho have been generating barrage of reactions from Nigerians who criticised him for lacking respect and sympathy for the deceased.
Recall also that Igboho had in the past came under fire after calling out the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi for not supporting his Yoruba’s nation cause.
However, Igboho, has since begged the Ooni of Ife for forgiveness over his outburst, stating that he was carried away by his emotions.
Meanwhile, here are some of the reactions harvested from Twitter:
“Just came across a video of Sunday Igboho mocking Pastor Adeboye over his sons death. I have nothing to tell him, all I can is “May he be judged according to his deeds”(@GoziconC)
“Sigh. So it’s only Yoruba that’s attending Baba Adeboye church? I don’t blame Sunday Igboho, I blame those who gave him wing. I blame those who made him their hero. I blame those who gave him platform to be seeing himself as a leader.”(@iwojazzy)
“I understand SUNDAY IGBOHO is not educated. It’s not too late to tutor him on how to talk while being granted interview or better still he should sought for a qualified media aide. Also, his illiteracy doesn’t give him the effrontery to be rude to Baba Adeboye #ApologizeNow.”(@olathrives)
“You wont send condolences to papa Adeboye because of his silence on Yoruba nation is plain stupid. I’m not Yoruba but I know that the Yorubas dont mock the dead or those who are grieving. Sunday Igboho is displaying a case of building with your Hands & spoiling it with your Mouth.” (@victorisrael_)
